Office of the Provost

Martha E. Pollack

Martha Pollack, Provost

Welcome! As provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, I serve as the chief academic and budget officer for the University of Michigan—Ann Arbor. I work closely with the university president, the deans of our 19 schools and colleges, and other campus leaders to ensure that we remain one of the world's best public universities. My responsibilities include strategic planning and policy development for academic programs; ensuring the quality of our students' educational experiences; administering the university's budget, allocating financial and space resources; and overseeing faculty and academic-staff personnel matters as well as university and faculty governance.

The University of Michigan's mission is, "to serve the people of Michigan and the world through preeminence in creating, communicating, preserving, and applying knowledge, art, and academic values, and in developing leaders and citizens who will challenge the present and enrich the future." We seek to create and sustain an environment that supports learning in many forms—teaching, research, artistic performance, public service, and community engagement—and that fosters exploration and discovery.

Recognizing that a vibrant and productive intellectual community has many benefits to those within it and to society more broadly, we strive to recruit the finest students, faculty, and researchers to our campus. Ours is a diverse community in many senses and we enjoy the learning opportunities that this provides.

Thank you for your interest in the work of the Office of the Provost. Please browse our web pages and learn more about the work we do to support our students, faculty, staff, the state of Michigan, and the world.
