target goals for classroom utilization
The Office of the Provost, in partnership with the Space Utilization Initiative Steering Committee, has established the following target goals for classroom and seating utilization on the Ann Arbor campus:
- Classroom utilization target goal: 70% utilization
(Calculation: # of hours of classes scheduled in a room / # of hours the room is available, based on a 45-hour week) - Seating capacity utilization target goal: 65% utilization
(Calculation: # of students enrolled in a class / maximum seating capacity of the room)
The Office of the Provost will review unit classroom and seating capacity utilization reports to ensure that units are using classroom and instructional labs effectively. Units with classrooms that do not meet target utilization goals may be asked to discuss the cause of underutilization during annual budget or capital project meetings.
