| FOR STUDENTS FOR FACULTY AVAILABLE SCHOLARSHIPS NOMINEES AND RECIPIENTS FAQ INFORMATION CALENDAR | Dear Student: Welcome! This website is designed to help you launch your search for national and international fellowship competitions that meet your educational, intellectual, and personal needs. Fellowships fall into many categories. Some provide funding to attend graduate school; others allow you to study or to conduct research overseas to gain practical experience in your field of study. If you are particularly interested in Rhodes, Marshall, and Mitchell Scholarships, you may want to also consult the collection of bulletins from British universities in the Honors Office or the Provost’s Office, 3084 Fleming Administration Building. We encourage you to browse our website and focus on a small group of competitions that catch your fancy. Fellow students who have had experience with the competitions you are interested in can be a valuable resource. Get to know them. In 2005, the Provost’s Council on Student Honors modified the application process, instituting a phased approach. The current deadline for the preliminary application is the last Friday in March. Students who are selected to compete at the regional or national level then prepare formal application packets for the fall, including a 1,000-word personal statement due August 1. The Provost’s Council on Student Honors is eager to mentor you in this process. We are happy, for example, to provide input on early drafts of the personal statement that will be part of your Rhodes, Marshall, or Mitchell applications, and we have outlined the steps you must take. You can contact us at 734-763-8123 or email gweir@umich.edu. Faculty members with whom you have worked closely are also key. Click here to obtain a copy of the “Request for Letter of Recommendation” form, which you can print and use. While the competition for fellowships can be fierce, Michigan students are among the most accomplished in the world. Good luck!
