Instructional Program || Distance-learning || Research Programs DISTANCE-LEARNING In January 1999, the Educational Technology/Distance Education Task Force (http://www.provost.umich.edu/reports/educational_technology/index.html) submitted its report to the Provost regarding the future of educational technology and distance education at the University of Michigan. This report makes recommendations about how the University might integrated, consolidate, and coordinate the effective use and growth of educational technologies and distance education programs. The School of Business Administrations Global MBA (http://www.bus.umich.edu/Academics/GMBA/), for instance, uses telecommunication technology as a supplement and communication mechanism for approximately 25% of the instruction delivered to sites in Hong Kong and Brazil. Students attend an intensive seven-week session in Ann Arbor, and regular instructional faculty of the Business School deliver instruction on-site. Each core course consists of two segments: (1) weekly classes between students in the company classroom site and School of Business Administration faculty in Ann Arbor using video conferencing technology, followed by (2) an intensive four-day classroom experience with University of Michigan faculty on-site at the company classroom location. Starting in the fall of 1999, the College of Engineering is offering a professional degree, the Master of Engineering degree programs in Automotive and Manufacturing (http://cpd.engin.umich.edu/), courses for which can be taken off-campus at corporate sites or at sites at Macomb County Community College, and at Ferris State University-Grand Rapids. In addition, the College offers afternoon and evening courses on the Ann Arbor campus. These courses are taught by regular instructional faculty of the College of Engineering and of other University academic units. Students have full access to the libraries and other resources of the College of Engineering and the University.
