HANDBOOKS & POLICY STATEMENTS Standard Practice Guide (http://spg.umich.edu/) The University of Michigan has policies in place to facilitate the resolution of conflicts and grievances for faculty, staff, and students. Policies and procedures for university employees are outlined in the Standard Practice Guide. Faculty Handbook (http://www.provost.umich.edu/faculty/handbook/index.html) There is a Faculty Handbook for instructional staff. Presidential Statement on Nondiscrimination of Gays and Lesbians (http://www.umich.edu/policy_nondescrim.php) The University strongly believes in the fair treatment of all members of the community regardless of race, gender, age, or sexual orientation. The Universitys statement on nondiscrimination of gays and lesbians can be found on the website listed above, and in the text below. Students: Ombuds Office (http://www.umich.edu/~ombuds) As discussed above, the University provides an Ombudsman Office for student complaints.
Faculty and staff: FASAP (http://www.umich.edu/~fasap/) The University provides counseling services for employees through its Faculty and Staff Assistance Program or FASAP. FASAP offers consultation services on such matters as organizational development, conflict, crisis intervention, drug and alcohol abuse, stress and violence management. All of these services are strictly confidential and are offered at no cost to the employee or the employees unit. Additional services include assistance with personal concerns such as family/partner issues, financial difficulties, and child development issues that may affect an employees performance in the workplace. Services for students, faculty and staff with disabilities The University has an office to provide services for students with disabilities (http://www.umich.edu/~sswd/ssd/). Further, the University provides assistance to faculty and staff with disabilities through the Human Resources and Affirmative Action Office (http://www.umich.edu/~hraa).
