Educational Technology/Distance Education
Appendix B
Announcement of Task Force
March 3, 1998
To Deans, Directors, and Department Chairs:
I intend to appoint a Task Force to examine the wide range of activities currently taking place across the UM campuses related to distance or asynchronous learning, effective and creative uses of technology in educational activities, and delivery of courses outside the normal format (e.g., summer sessions) or to non-traditional populations (e.g., alumni, industry, community groups). The Task Force should first examine the University's needs and priorities in these areas and how the various administrative entities participate in these activities, and then make recommendations on how we can better accomplish our objectives in the most effective and cost-efficient manner. The Task Force will be organized by Associate Provost Pamela Raymond. I expect it to meet during the 1998 winter and spring/summer terms, and report back to me by the end of this summer.
If your unit would like to participate in this discovery process, I invite you or your designee to contact Pamela at 764-0151 and let her know of your interest. The group will begin meeting within the next few weeks.
Sincerely,
Nancy Cantor
