21.H Housing

The Housing Information Office, a unit of University Housing, is the University community’s central source of housing information and assistance. While serving primarily the needs of University students, the office’s resources are available to faculty and staff as well.

Services of specific interest to faculty and staff include:

Faculty and Staff Housing Referral. The referral service is designed to assist faculty and staff members from the Ann Arbor campus who wish to advertise the availability of their primary residence while on leaves of absence, sabbaticals, or extended vacations (two months or more). Current, retired, or visiting faculty and staff, and professors emeriti of the University of Michigan, are eligible to advertise their primary residence for rent, to share, for exchange, or may advertise a second home elsewhere in the world for rent.

Referrals are updated bi-weekly and can be accessed online at: <www.offcampus.housing.umich.edu/staff/referral.cfm>. The listing is made available only to faculty and staff members, both current and new to the University.

Family Housing Apartments/Townhouses. Faculty and staff are eligible to live in University-owned and operated family housing apartments or townhouses based on availability of units after all student applicants have been offered a lease. Leases are for 12 months continuous occupancy; eligibility is generally limited to single parents, married couples with or without children, and domestic partners with or without children. For more detailed information or to apply please go to the website at <www.housing.umich.edu>.

Off-Campus Housing Program. The Ann Arbor area rental community participates in the Housing’s Landlord Registration Program by advertising in an off-campus listing and website. The address is <www.housing.umich.edu>. This site includes rental units, sublets, and roommate listings. University Housing also publishes an informative, off-campus housing booklet and a comprehensive Greater Ann Arbor and campus map. Additionally, mediation services are provided to registered landlords and University of Michigan students.

Housing Advisors. Professional staff in the Housing Information Office are available to consult with faculty and staff about types of housing in the Ann Arbor area, although they are not a substitute for real estate professionals.

Conference Services. This department offers a number of services of potential interest to faculty and staff, including leasing of fully furnished and outfitted guest units in Family Housing for limited term stays; year-round on-campus guest lodging facility; and comprehensive conference planning and management services for academic units planning meetings, seminars, conferences, or workshops.

The Housing Information Office is located in 1011 Student Activities Building, 763-3164 E-mail: <housing@umich.edu> or visit the website at <www.housing.umich.edu>
