15.I Medical Insurance PlansAs part of its flexible benefits plan, the University offers a variety of medical insurance plans and options for faculty, staff, and their dependents. The University pays a significant portion of the cost of health insurance coverage. All regular and supplemental faculty and staff with at least a 50% appointment of four continuous months or more are eligible for health insurance benefits. Faculty members may be eligible to opt out and receive a monthly cash-back amount if they have other health insurance coverage outside the University. The election of a health insurance plan or opting out must occur within 30 days of the date of hire. If a new faculty member has not enrolled in health insurance or opted out within the 30-day enrollment period, neither the faculty member nor any dependents will have health or prescription drug coverage. The next opportunity to enroll will not take place until the next annual period of open enrollment or until the occurrence of a qualifying event (marriage, birth or adoption, etc.).
