Office of the Provost

Author-Publisher Liaison

In fall 2007, the Office of the Provost introduced a service devoted to aiding faculty members in their effort to publish their work with academic publishers and university presses. Focusing on tenure-track faculty, the Author-Publisher Liaison (APL) helps to demystify the publication process and provides assistance navigating it from proposal preparation to publication. The APL provides publishing-related services and guidance on such aspects as preparing a prospectus, approaching acquisitions editors, identifying the market, and understanding subventions, permissions, and contract terms. Now, as part of the MPublishing suite of services, the APL continues to work with authors to move through the publication process as smoothly and quickly as possible so as to free-up precious time of faculty for teaching, writing, and research.

The service provided by the Author-Publisher Liaison contributes directly to the University’s mission of sustaining superior intellectual work at Michigan and enhancing the University’s shared public culture by supporting scholarly publishing across its schools and colleges.
