Karen Gibbons

Chief of Staff, Office of the Provost

As Chief of Staff, Karen serves as an advisor to and provides staff support for the Provost; acts as a liaison to the Deans, Executive Officers, Senate Assembly Committee on University Affairs (SACUA) and others; interprets policy and advises Deans and units on University policies and procedures; manages and advises the Provost's staff on day-to-day operations and is responsible for all personnel matters; administers executive searches in the Provost's Office, and functions as a point person on development-related matters. Karen also provides staff support for the Academic Program Group and serves as the contact person on publicity matters under the purview of the Provost. Karen holds her B. A. in Human Resource Administration and has been employed at the University of Michigan since 1970 and in the Provost's Office since 1990.
