Kathleen (Kati) Bauer

Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Information

Kati Bauer assists the Vice Provost for Academic Information, answering questions and arranging for assistance as needed. In her position, she is working directly with a number of the University's public goods organizations (and the Public Goods Council) including the Bentley Historical Library, the Matthaei Botanical Gardens and the Nichols Arboretum, the Museum of Art, and the William L. Clements Library. She assists in reviewing and making recommendations on various policies and procedures. Additionally, she worked with a committee that created a University-wide copyright policy and a web site that focuses on copyright issues, advice, and concerns; and the committee that created a policy regarding spoofed and spammed email. She continues to work with a committee that looks at issues of privacy that may affect UM students, faculty and staff; and yet another that deals with issues related to IT security. She is also involved with the core team working on the MPortfolio pilot for the University. Kati is quite concerned about patient safety, and as such, has participated as the patient advocate on the University of Michigan Hospitals' Patient Safety Committee since 2002.

Kati has worked in the Provost's Office for eight years. Prior to that, she was chief of staff for the University's chief information officer for four years (through the Y2K concern), worked for the Information Technology Division for nine years in various roles, and for University Audits for six years—coordinating the University's Standard Practice Guide. All-in-all, Kati has worked for the University for 33 years.

Kati is a bonded notary public, sings in her church's choir, owns her own quilting business (creating custom quilts and teaching beginning piecing classes), and loves reading, landscaping, attending UM football games, and walking her dogs. Kati holds an Associate's degree in Construction Management, occasionally working with her husband's construction business in Chelsea, Michigan.
