Gretchen Weir

Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Affairs

Gretchen Weir’s primary responsibility is to assist the Senior Vice Provost with ad hoc and ongoing projects associated with academic affairs and his role as Senior Counselor to the President for Arts, Diversity, and Undergraduate Affairs. In addition she represents the Office of the Senior Vice Provost on the Provost’s Council on Student Honors, the Admissions Conduct Advisory Committee, the Humanities Funding Committee, and the Academic Services Board. She works with the Shipman, Gates, and Rogel Honor Societies and coordinates the application process for the Rhodes. Marshall, and Mitchell Scholarships. She also provides staff support to the Associate Provosts/Associate Deans Group and the Task Force for Long-range Planning for Student Recruitment. She works closely with the many academic affairs offices that report to Senior Vice Provost Lester Monts, including the Offices of Financial Aid, Undergraduate Admissions, and the University Registrar, facilitating the budget process and coordinating inquiries. She has been in her current position since December 1999.

Before coming to the Provost's Office, Ms. Weir was the Communications Coordinator for the M-Pathways Project. She joined the project and the university in 1996.

Ms. Weir's experience outside the university includes ten years as a computer consultant and trainer and five years as a project manager in an international engineering company, overseeing the implementation of computer-controlled storage systems in factories and warehouses. She has also worked as a journalist and technical writer.

She earned her undergraduate degree at Bucknell University and a masters in English Language and Literature at the University of Michigan.
